Photoshoot and the Editing Process -

Today I conducted a photo shoot with my auntie. I had her try out a lot of different poses that we saw in real music magazines. I tried to take as many images as possible so that I would have a lot of choice when it came to editing and constructing the music magazine.

Contact Sheet:

Now I have taken the pictures, I can get to work editing and manipulating them in a way that mimics the techniques used in real magazines.

Here are the before and afters:

To edit this image I use the colour balance tool on Photoshop to ensure that the colours looked natural and well balanced. I also increased the brightness to add a healthy glow to the image, to make it stand out. Then I used the Healing Brush Tool to fix any blemishes or discolouration on her skin.

I applied a lot of the same techniques that I used in the first image, however I decided to make this picture black and white. I chose to have a couple of black and white images in the magazine as I think they look quite classy and vintage-like. I also used the contrast tool to enhance the black and white effect and make it look more three dimensional.

I cropped this image and used the healing brush tool to smooth out the backdrop. I then applied the same techniques I did in the first photograph. I chose to crop the image because there was a lot of negative space which seemed unnecessary.

I again used the healing brush to smooth out the background, and then I also used the brightness tool to adjust the image and make it look brighter and calmer.

Next I will work on the images that I have taken in the past at actual folk and other music festivals.
