Masthead Planning

After a lot of brainstorming I have decided that the name if the magazine is going to be “Acapella”. Now I have decided this I started working on the masthead of the magazine. I know the theme of my magazine is going to be vintage/shabby chic, so I want the masthead to reflect this.

To do this I made a rough sketch on a piece of paper, and as you can see there is an embellished “A”, with a show-biz/Broadway border, then the rest of the work is written in curved joined up lettering.

I think the colour I want the masthead to be is a cream/beige colour for the main bulk of the masthead, then a light cornflower blue for the border of the “A”. This fits in with the vintage theme, as these are colours that you see a lot in vintage publication.

I just think the two colours really compliment each other, and would look really nice combined on the masthead.

When making the masthead, I was experimenting with different styles, and I saw a vintage magazine whilst researching, and liked the font of their masthead, so I was inspired to use a font much like theirs.

I drew out the outline using a graphics tablet and Photoshop, and then filled it in.

I decided not to do the embellished "A" in the end, as the light effects didn't show up very well against the beige background.
