Double Page Spread Article

For my double page spread I decided to write a question and answer interview, as readers tend to find it easier to read articles written in such a way because they are usually quite chatty and informal, which is nice to read as you feel like you can really connect with the person being interviewed.

I wrote the following article:

From humble beginnings, doing gigs in pubs around her hometown, to conquering the UK and keeping her album at number one for ten weeks! Molly Cooper [lead singer of Blue Rose] has certainly had an action packed year…

Congratulations on completing your first tour… How do you think it went?

It was such an incredible experience.  Going from crowds of around a hundred people to a couple of thousand was insane!  But once you start playing it feels just like home, and you forget about the massive crowd watching you! But the fans were so supportive, it gave the group such a buzz. Overall though, it was absolutely amazing, and I’m sure the gang would do it again in a heartbeat…

You’re generally a very upbeat person and yours songs are very uplifting… Is that hard to maintain?

*Laughs* Well everyone has their off days! But generally yeah, I’m really a really positive person and make the best of bad situations; and creating feel good music, well… That’s just another day in paradise for me, so I don’t really have much to be sad about!

What’s your secret?

It’s not much of a secret…But I just immerse myself in what I love and surround myself with wonderful people! If I had to give anyone one piece of advice, I would say: Always do what you love. If you aren’t passionate about what you’re doing, it won’t bring you any happiness.

Speaking of wonderful people, Alfie [Lead guitarist of Blue Rose] proposed to you at the end of the tour, did you have an idea that he was going to do it? Or was it a complete surprise?

Awh, bless him *laughs* It was a complete surprise! When he started making the speech, I thought he was just rounding off the tour, but as soon as he went down on one knee… I fell apart! It was all so emotional and such a perfect time to do it. I was totally overwhelmed, I could barely stammer out a yes!

It sounds perfect. How did the others in the group [drummer Danny Hanson, bass player Marcus Keenan, and percussionist Caspar Edmonds] take it? Any tension?

They were all really pleased for us; we’re like one big family… When we spend nearly every minute of every day with each other: rehearsing, performing, and writing, it would be strange if there was tension. But Alfie managed to keep it a secret, because he knew that one of them would give the game away; probably Danny, he’s such a bad liar!

So your new album: Dream Catcher is coming out Monday… What should we expect?

Yes, well there are 18 new tracks. We’ve been a bit more experimental with this album, trying some new styles. There are some ballads on there, and some really upbeat almost dance tracks. But we’ve tried really hard to make sure that we stick to our roots, and always add an element of folk into each song; whether that’s through the lyrics or instrument choices. Also Alfie and Caspar sing together in a song called: On the Horizon, it’s a really beautiful ethereal song about achieving your ambitions. Obviously that’s the core message of the album; never stop chasing your dreams.

That sounds great! What more can we look forward to from Blue Rose?

Well we’re going to be performing at a lot of festivals over the summer, Lunch in the Park, Sunshine Valley, and we’re headlining at Hastonbury. We’re also beginning to plan an international arena tour for next year, which I am mega excited about! Hopefully the world enjoys our music as much as our brilliant fans in the UK!
