Introduction to the Briefs

At the beginning of the course we were presented with two possible briefs of which to base our coursework around, either print or film; both had a preliminary and main task, of which we would focus on three main areas: research, processes, and evaluation.

Film:

The preliminary task would require us to create a short clip of a character opening a door, sitting down opposite another character while they exchange a few lines of dialogue. Then the main task is to create a 2 minute opening sequence of a potential film (Which could have been inspired by the work done in the preliminary task.

Print:

The preliminary task is to create a front cover and contents page of a new school magazine, also included in the brief was a set of aspects we needed to include on this cover (Photograph of a student in a medium close-up, plus appropriately laid out text, and a mast head).
Following this, the main task is to create a front cover, contents page and double page spread of a new music magazine.

Thoughts:

Initially I took media to further my knowledge in editing and filming techniques, as I am very comfortable working with the medium. However I thought doing print would be more of a challenge, as I have never done anything like that before and I think it could be something that I would be interested in doing in the future. I am really looking forward to experimenting and extending my knowledge of desktop publishing. The only concern I have is that I am not well informed about music magazines, as they have never really been a passion of mine, however through researching I think I will be able to overcome that, to create a professional looking magazine.

I am working alone, so I will need to make sure that I keep up with the work, and meet every deadline I have been set. To keep myself on track I will create a time schedule.

  1. Jade - this is turning into a very strong BLOG. If it continues at this quality you will end up with a Level 4 mark for Research and Planning. Just ensure that you leave no stone unturned when it comes to fleshing out the research and process sections. Refer to the checklist to make sure you have every angle covered and that you have included everything.
